3 Tips to Publishing Video Regularly and Consistently

Video Marketing Tips Series

This is part of an ongoing series giving you tips on how to create great marketing videos and how to get the most search engine optimization and benefit from those marketing videos.

3 Tips to Publishing Video Regularly and Consistently

Whether its blogging or video marketing or youtube or a podcast, consistently creating and publishing new content is a power tool to increase traffic to your site. Don’t just randomly create new videos or blog posts, but develop a routine and a schedule. Part of the reason this is one of the first articles I am publishing is to help keep myself accountable. I have tried, in the past, to create regular content with two podcasts. They have each gone months without new episodes at times. Here are 3 tips on how to create marketing videos regularly and consistently.

Tip #1 – Schedule It!Schedule

Productivity experts agree that if you want something important to get done, you need to assign it a time. So look at your schedule and choose a time to start creating! If you are first starting out, and aren’t sure how long it will take, give yourself extra time. Try scheduling it early in the week so that if you can’t do it in one sitting, you have time to get back and finish it. And keep the commitment to yourself! You can also consider outsourcing portions of your workflow, such as the editing, or the creation of the YouTube record or blog post. Or try out If This Then That (IFTTT) for some automation.

Tip #2 – Shoot It!

Hand-Holding-Mobile-Smart-Phone2 You don’t need to have a fancy studio to create a great marketing video. Your smart phone, iPhone, tablet, or iPad has a great camera. Or try using your webcam. Try to reduce visual clutter behind you so that people aren’t distracted. A blank wall actually might help, but don’t stand flat against it. Turn off any “noise makers” in the room (fans, computers, air conditioning, ringers), or go to a quieter room. You also want to be sure to get close to the camera so the microphone can hear you. If you need some notes, that’s ok. Just make sure you don’t look down at them the entire time. When you’re ready to shoot, start with something that will entice people to stay and watch the entire thing, such as the topic or question you are going to answer. Once you have them hooked, don’t forget to say your name and the name of your company, then continue. Try to keep it to under 3 minutes. Closer to one minute is better for video. Conclude by saying your name and company name, then ask them to like, share, and comment on the video. This will help drive additional social network traffic to the video or blog from outside your personal circle of influence.

Tip #3 – Ship It!Enter Key Shows Computing And Internet

And as Seth Godin says, you you most “ship it”! It doesn’t need to be perfect, but you must ship (publish)! You don’t necessarily even have to edit it, if you shot it in one take and din’t mess up too much. Create a draft blog post on your website that you are going to embed the video into. Make sure the title is compelling and SEO friendly. Type up some good notes summarizing what the video is about, and link to any related articles on the web or on your own site. On YouTube, any url that is complete with the ’http:// becomes clickable. Next, Upload the video to YouTube and make sure you fill out all the fields completely. Use the same title you used for your blog post. Make sure that the description field includes a link to the blog post you are going to embed the video into, plus the same description information you put into the blog post. Also include links to any and all of your social network profiles. This article was inspired, in part, by 29 Tips to Make Your Video Marketing Easy – Social Media Examiner.

4: Start publishing regularly

Video can seem like just another challenge to overcome, but I see a major increase in my business and brand awareness all from the power of video. There are a number of tips I could share, but the best one is easy. Simply put, it’s important to start publishing video on a consistent basis. Seven Steps to Create a Marketing Video Today!

Video Marketing Tips Series

This is part of an ongoing series giving you tips on how to create great marketing videos and how to get the most search engine optimization and benefit from those marketing videos.

Seven Steps to Create a Marketing Video Today!

Tip #1 – Try Video Now!

Try video and see if it works. I am pretty sure you have everything you need to produce a video already. Start with your iPhone, iPad, DSLR or digital camera. Even if you don’t have anything else, this is enough to get started.

Step 1 – Video is HorizontalHand-Holding-Mobile-Smart-Phone2

First, for phone and tablets, make sure you frame the video horizontally, not vertically. This will make it play better on all platforms, and make it not look as amateur.

Step 2 – Frame your head

Frame it with the top of your head near the top edge of the frame. Pay attention to when you watch TV or movies, and you’ll see this is the way that looks best. Putting your head in the middle of the frame will make you look vertically challenged. While you’re at it, try to get a close up of just your head and shoulders and so people can see your expressions better.

Step 3 – Prepare the environment

Minimize noise in the room.

Minimize noise in the room.

If you are in an office or at home, try to minimize any noises by temporarily turning off fans or air conditioners. Also, your desktop or laptop computer fan may be louder than you realize. If you are not using it to record, consider shutting it down or putting it into sleep mode.

Step 4 – Prepare yourself

You will be most comfortable if you a record a video talking about a topic you don’t have to research. But, even if you know your material, it is a good idea to jot down a few notes before you start. You can hold the sheet out of frame, or tape it under or next to the camera.

Step 5 – Record!

Now you’re all set, press that button and begin talking. When you are done talking, stop. A few mess ups or misspoken words come sometimes just make the whole thing come off as more authentic. If you hate it, just shoot it again. But if you are interested in editing your video, or adding titles, I recommend iMovie on iPhone and iPad, iMovie on Mac, or Windows Movie Maker on Windows.

Step 6 – Publish

Share, everywhere!

Share, everywhere!

Most smart phones allow direct publishing to youtube in one simple step. But if you have a Google plus business page, i recommend publishing it to that page, if appropriate. On mobile, I recommend the YouTube Capture app. On desktops, just ensure you’re logged in to you Google Plus business page.

Step 7 – Share

Lastly, if no one know you made a video, no one is likely to see it. So make sure you hare the video on all your social networks; Google Plus, Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, WordPress, Tumblr, etc. And don’t be afraid to ask your viewers to like and share your video.

Thats all for this tip. I will be presenting many more video marketing tips, including how to come up with a publishing schedule, how to include other people, how to do interviews and more. So, if you have a specific question – or a tip – please leave a comment on the YouTube video or the blog post, and share it with your friends and circles as well.

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Online Videos

Frequently Asked Questions About Selling Online Videos

I had a lead ask me several questions about the way I suggest to deliver their existing video seminars to more people in order to increase revenue. She had so many good questions, in fact, that I thought she might not be alone. So I have compiled these Frequently Asked Questions about Video Seminars.

When you shoot a video for a client, what are the options they can choose for delivery?

a pile of blank DVD discs

DVD discs are no longer worth the plastic they’re printed on. Digital delivery is now the norm.

I believe physical media (DVDs and BluRays, etc.) are on their way out. More and more content “sellers” are moving to a membership site model, at least when it comes to videos in series or sets. When you purchase a training class, a system automatically generates an account for you with a unique password, much like any other site. The “seller” can then allow or block you from whatever content you have or have not paid for.

This is a great way to grow your passive income if you are producing content on a regular basis as you can set it up as a subscription model, where they continue to have access to past videos as well as new videos, as long as they continue to pay their monthly dues. The model you choose depends on the volume of content you produce and its value.

Hosting online also avoids (or at least reduces) problems with people being able to play the format. Nearly all web-based video playback automatically adjusts for the viewer’s device; Mac, PC, iPhone, etc. If you deliver a physical product, you need to provide it either in multiple formats, which can be confusing to the end user, or find the “one-size-fits-most” format. Tablets – and now many laptops – do not include a DVD drive, making that format less compatible than it was even a few years ago.

A usb thumb drive

Thumb drives have compatibility problems with tablets, especially iPads and iPhones.

Either way, some form of electronic (non-physical) delivery is THE way to go. Most of my commercial clients get an electronic delivery from me via FTP or Dropbox, and then their web admin handles getting it on their website. Or I am put in direct contact with their web admin. I rarely have ANYONE ask for a physical copy anymore.

How you prevent piracy or theft? How would we prevent people from copying our work and sharing it?

a padlock

Internet security has improved greatly

Another advantage to hosting your files online is you can (more-or-less reliably) prevent unauthorized copying. Plus, can you connect a flash drive to a Tablet? An iPad? No, you can’t. Nor can you play a DVD in a tablet. DVDs can get misplaced, scratched, or “ripped” and re-published without your permission. It also can be tricky to clearly deliver multiple videos on a Flash drive in a way that allows for people to know the sequence or relationship between them.

Can you create movies that can be purchased through iTunes or other electronic stores?

badge_itunes-lrgYes, I have contacts with third party providers who allow small companies to offer their videos through the iTunes store and other outlets. These services take a percentage of every sale, and pay you your portion.

If your customers buy your video online, not only can they watch it online, but they could watch it from ANY device or computer by simply logging in. There are even some really advanced premium services that can “resume” where the viewer left off. Again, if it is streaming online, it is more difficult to “steal” but not impossible. And any online account could theoretically share their login with someone else.

But, anything delivered via iTunes (iTunes movies or iBooks) is very, VERY difficult to “steal.”

Can I create a commercial for my product or video?

Yes. Any long form video can be very effectively edited into a “commercial” for the longer product. This has been shown to increase sales by as much as 600%! Each unique product you sell should have its own highlight video or commercial sales video on its’ sales page.

What if I really, really want it delivered in a physical form?

If you still want your product delivered in a physical form, we can delivery a CD, DVD or BluRay disc. We can also provide files via USB drives; thumb-drives or hard drives.

If you are creating a product to sell, we can help design the packaging and have retail-ready bar-coded and shrink wrapped packages produced for you.

It allows you to list products and services, which can be highlighted with links and videos. You can link each product or service to specific staff member. And you can assign multiple people as page managers, like on the other social media platforms we’ve talked about. And the most powerful aspect – page analytics and insights into who exactly is checking out your business.

PP 4 – Why Start A Podcast?

A new episode of Pocket Podcaster has just been published over at Pocket Podcaster titled “PP 4 – Why Start A Podcast?.”

PP 4 – Why Start A Podcast?

In this episode, I explain why I decided to start this podcast on this topic in particular. Podcasting can be easier, more fun, and more effective than just simply blogging. There seems to be a bit more “grace” with listeners and viewers of video and audio than their is with written content. And besides that, you probably always have your iPhone with you, right?

In a later episode I will show you how you can literally carry everything you need to produce a podcast like this in your pockets (or purse, or jacket).

Please leave feedback on this episode on Youtube or on this post. And please leave a review on iTunes.

PP 5 – How to edit video on iPhone for Free

A new episode of Pocket Podcaster has just been published over at Pocket Podcaster titled “PP 5 – How to edit video on iPhone for Free.”

How to edit video on iPhone for Free

In this episode I show how to edit and trim your video on your iPhone or iPad using the built in Photos app. This simple app that comes right on your iOS device allows you to trim a video’s beginning and end to cut out any extra footage. It can NOT however allow you to cut out of the middle or join two together.

Once you trim the clip to your liking, you can save the video as a new video on your camera roll if you have the space, or else you can replace the previous video with the newly trimmed version. I caution you to not save over the original if you have the space. You can always go back and delete the original afterwards. This way if you trim too much, you can always go back and do it over again.

Rear camera glitch demonstration in Rise iPad App

This video demonstrates the odd behavior of the Rise iOS app to display the rear facing camera as one of the backgrounds behind the clock. Before a delete and re-install, I was getting it to actually show the home screen wallpaper behind the clock, which according to the app's developer should be impossible.

Five Reasons Why Video Marketing is Important

Five Reasons Why Video Marketing is Important

5 Reasons Why Video Marketing Is Important

<

p>People often ask “Why is video marketing important?” And “Why do I need video marketing?” The answers are quite simple, and it all comes down to asking this question: “Do you want to increase traffic to your site?”

  1. People would rather watch than read.

Increasingly, people would rather watch a video than read a blog post or article online; they are used to consuming visual content on all channels; Facebook, Instagram, etc. People are also more likely to finish watching an engaging video than read an entire blog post.

  2. Video stands out from the search result crowd.

When people see a page of search results, video results stand out from the list because they show a thumbnail image next to the text summary. On social media, images and videos are given more space and priority than text only or link posts.

  3. Video can be easier than writing.

There seems to be a perception online, that if you have one misspelled word or typo in your blog article, that you mustn't know what you talking about. But on video, there seems to be a little more grace for mistakes. In fact, a more authentic video will actually be trusted more than a polished video in some categories.

  4. Video can be SEO optimized.

Most people don't know that you can embed the transcript of your video on YouTube. If you are reading from a written script, this is as simple as copy and paste. If you are more unscripted, it may require a bit more work. But essentially, this means words you spoke in the video can be searched, therefore you should make sure to say your keywords or key phrases in your video. You can also add these keywords to your tags and video decription.

  5. Videos can link back to your site.

When you create a video on YouTube, you have the option to add links to the description as well as text. Make sure you link it back to your website or the related post on your site. You can also setup your YouTube Channel to link to you homepage, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, etc. to add more link relevancy.
